Buttermilk Waffles & Buttermilk Syrup

This month is a 2 for one recipe…buttermilk waffles & buttermilk syrup! Perfect for brunch or any beautiful summer morning breakfast! I swear it tastes even better when you eat them outside 😉

 

Buttermilk Waffles

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour

  • 2 Tbsp sugar

  • 1 Tbsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 2 cups buttermilk

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/2 cup melted butter

  • 1 tsp vanilla

 

Instructions

  1. Preheat waffle iron.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together:

    • flour

    • sugar

    • baking powder

    • baking soda

    • salt

  3. In another bowl whisk:

    • buttermilk

    • eggs

    • melted butter

    • vanilla

  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. A few lumps are fine.

  5. Let batter rest 5 minutes.

  6. Cook according to waffle iron directions until golden and crisp.

 

Tips

  • For extra crispy waffles: let them cool briefly on a wire rack instead of stacking.

  • These freeze really well.

 

 

Creamy Buttermilk Syrup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1/2 cup butter

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

 

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine:

    • sugar

    • butter

    • buttermilk

  2. Bring to a gentle boil for about 2–3 minutes, stirring often.

  3. Remove from heat.

  4. Stir in:

    • vanilla

    • baking soda

It will foam up and get light and creamy

Serve warm over waffles.
