John Finney: A Life of Service, On and Off Duty

After nearly 25 years in the Marine Corps, John Finney knows what it means to serve with purpose. From logistics specialist to Recon Marine to Sergeant Major, John built a career on leadership, teamwork, and grit.  For John, military service wasn’t just a career path, it was a calling and challenge that had always been a part of him.

“Military service has always appealed to me. I was a G.I. Joe fan as a kid, and I’ve always had a desire to help others and be part of a team,” he recalls. “Despite not knowing much about the military, I gravitated toward the challenge and the unknown that the Marine Corps offered me at 18 years old.”

Since retiring in 2024, John has continued his mission through his role at GovTools as Government Sales Manager-East, supporting military, first responders, and government personnel with the tools and resources they need.

The Gear to Meet the Challenge

When it comes to gear, John doesn’t compromise, especially when it comes to boots. He has worn Rocky Boots for years, and comments, “The S2V is my favorite because it is rugged, reliable, and ready for any terrain.”
