Venison Stew

One of our favorite winter recipes on the farm is venison stew! It is so delicious & perfect for a cold winter day!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds venison stew meat, cubed
  • 1 onion
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/3 c flour
  • 7 carrots
  • 5 russet potatoes
  • 12 cups water
  • 4 tablespoons Better Than Bouillon
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Sautee deer stew in a cast iron skillet until outsides are golden brown.
  2. Place stew meat into pressure cooker with 1 cup water & pressure cook for 30 minutes.
  3. Dice onion & sautee it in 2 tablespoons butter in your soup pot.
  4. Once onions are golden brown, stir in flour.
  5. Then add your water & stir until flour is dissolved.
  6. Leave pot on medium heat until it comes to a simmer, leave simmering on medium/low.
  7. Peel & dice carrots & potatoes & add to soup pot.
  8. Add Better Than Bouillon (vegetable or beef flavor are good), & onion powder.
  9. Let stew simmer while meat finishes pressure cooking.
  10. Once meat it done pressure cooking, add stew meat & juices to soup pot.
  11. Continue to simmer until vegetables reach desired softness.
  12. Taste & add salt & pepper to your liking.
  13. Enjoy!!!
