Feeding the Farmer
Venison Stew
One of our favorite winter recipes on the farm is venison stew! It is so delicious & perfect for a cold winter day!
Ingredients
2 pounds venison stew meat, cubed
1 onion
3 tablespoons butter
1/3 c flour
7 carrots
5 russet potatoes
12 cups water
4 tablespoons Better Than Bouillon
1 tablespoon onion powder
Salt & pepper to taste
Directions
Step 1
Sautee deer stew in a cast iron skillet until outsides are golden brown.
Step 2
Place stew meat into pressure cooker with 1 cup water & pressure cook for 30 minutes.
Step 3
Dice onion & sautee it in 2 tablespoons butter in your soup pot.
Step 4
Once onions are golden brown, stir in flour.
Step 5
Then add your water & stir until flour is dissolved.
Step 6
Leave pot on medium heat until it comes to a simmer, leave simmering on medium/low.
Step 7
Peel & dice carrots & potatoes & add to soup pot.
Step 8
Add Better Than Bouillon (vegetable or beef flavor are good), & onion powder.
Step 9
Let stew simmer while meat finishes pressure cooking.
Step 10
Once meat it done pressure cooking, add stew meat & juices to soup pot.
Step 11
Continue to simmer until vegetables reach desired softness.
Step 12
Taste & add salt & pepper to your liking.
